Solvang's Finest Century (November 10, 2007)
Riders experienced the very best of the Santa Ynez valley and points beyond. This figure eight style course starts with a tour of Solvang, Los Olivos, Ballard and Santa Ynez, and then heads up the well-known Foxen Canyon and back to Solvang via Zaca Station, Hwy 154 and beautiful Ballard Canyon. Then out Santa Rosa Road to Lompoc, up and over Harris Grade and drop back down to Hwy 135 towards the great little western antique haven of Los Alamos. From Los Alamos, riders encountered the last big climb of the day, up and over Drum Canyon, a quiet, twisty, 800 foot, 3.4 mile ascent, and Hwy 246 back into Solvang. Order Pictures |

Track Cycling (December 9, 2006)
It was raining when I got up this morning and didn't feel like going on my usual ride, so I came with Kim to Ladies Day at the LA Velodrome. I took lots of pictures of Kim of course, as well as the UCSB cycling team, world champion Sarah Hammer, and just a few of everyone else. |

Sick Day (November 25, 2006)
Kim and I caught some kind of stomach flu from her family on Thanksgiving, and much to my dismay I was not able to go on my usual Saturday morning ride. However, every cloud has a silver lining so I decided to get some pictures of the group coming by my house on Cathedral Oaks near Patterson. While I was waiting for them I also shot other cyclists, runners, cars, and scenery. This was a small group, its usually much larger. |

Echelon Time Trial (September 11, 2006)
This was the penultimate time trial for the year, and fell on the day of my second wedding anniversary. Unfortunately I made some bad food choices shortly before the race and sufferred a flat tire on Glen Annie and didn't do very well. |

Echelon Time Trial (August 14, 2006)
A windy Monday evening, many times were not as fast as usual. I was about 45 seconds slower than my previous time, coming in at 28:15. My rear derailleur broke on my lunchtime/warmup ride (in the hardest gear, with my front already stuck on the big ring!), so I had limped to Bob's on Storke and Roger was able to effect emergency repairs. Thanks again Roger! |

Santa Barbara County Tour (May 27-28, 2006)
For Memorial Day weekend, we rode 112 miles from Peet's Coffe in Santa Barbara up to the Buckhorn Motel in New Cuyama, and just a hair over 100 miles back through Ojai the next day. Our route took us up Old San Marcos and over San Marcos Pass on the 154 to Foxen Canyon Road. We stopped at Fess Parker's Winery for lunch, then continued on up Tempesquet to the 166. Sunday continued along the 166 to the 33 for a long scenic climb and a soaring descent into Ojai. We finished up taking the 150 over Casitas Pass and finally a 'parade lap' up State Street to end up back where we started, at Peet's. |

Echelon Time Trial (May 8, 2006)
The second race of the Monday Night Time Trial series for 2006. This is a very cool way to test yourself and test against others in a low key atmosphere. It meets at 6pm at Cathedral Oaks & Fairview in Goleta. I'm in the brown argyle 'Twin Six' jersey, and I finished in 27:25, 10 seconds faster than last month. |

Echelon Time Trial (April 17, 2006)
The Monday Night Time Trial series for 2006 was delayed a week due to rain, the first time in the history of the series. This is a very cool way to test yourself and test against others in a low key atmosphere. It meets at 6pm at Cathedral Oaks & Fairview in Goleta. I finished in 27:35, about midway through the field and 2 minutes faster than last year! Results |

Island View Classic (March 4, 2006)
After a seven-year hiatus, the UCSB Cycling Team, in partnership with the Isla Vista Bus Association and the Isla Vista Recreation and Park District, once again brought a high-speed bike race to downtown Isla Vista. The race included tight turns, high speeds, short laps, and a street fair hosted by the IV Recreation and Park District. |

Tour of California Stage 6 to Thousand Oaks (February 25, 2006)
Arriving by bike about an hour before the start, I had an opportunity to wander around the staging area, getting up close and personal with the teams and equipment. A few minutes before the start I tried to get to the edge of the road but it was packed. I was able to squeeze and and get some good pictures as they streamed past. |

Tour of California Stage 5 to Santa Barbara (February 24, 2006)
I rode up Old San Marcos and the 154 to San Marcos pass with Damon to view the riders approaching the King of the Mountains line. There were a good amount of people there, but it wasn't too crowded, so it was a good choice. Afterwards, we took advantage of the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and blasted down the wide-open road with free reign at 40+ mph. |
