Jul 5, 07:48 PM by Steve | We Can Go Home
Posted in Miscellanea | CommentsI just got the call from my Mom, that her and my neigborhoods have been reopened. The information online still indicated that it was closed, but 10 minutes later she called me again, from home. I hit the Independent again and they had edited their article to reflect what I was told. So Kim and I are packing back up and will head back home shortly.

Posted in Miscellanea | Comments [7]We’ve been evacuated

The fire looks crazy close to our house. Smoke and ash all over the place, and you can’t see shit. We crammed as much stuff as we could in the Mini and drove over to a friend’s house for the night. We saved the important, irreplaceable stuff, like wedding pictures, my old negatives, Kim’s cross-stitches, our hard drives, and our bikes of course!

Jun 13, 09:44 AM by Steve | No Excuses
Posted in Triathlon & Miscellanea | Comments [1]Kim has been trying to get me to do triathlons with her for a while. When people ask me why I don’t do triathlons I say I would but I hate swimming and running. Now she has been doing masters swimming at the gym while I sit in the hot tub and watch. I like that arrangement, it works for me. Imagine my surprise when Kim won the wetsuit in the drawing at Nite Moves this week, then turned around, gave it to me, and said now I had no excuses. No excuses? Drat. Isn’t “I don’t wanna” an excuse? Oh well, I guess I’ll have to suck it up and learn to swim properly, eventually.

Posted in Miscellanea | Leave a Comment [1]I just got a check for $1,200 from the IRS. We are supposed to “stimulate” the economy with it, but I’m going to use it to pay down debt. What are you going to do with your check?

May 1, 03:38 PM by Steve | Human Traffic Cone
Posted in Miscellanea & Cycling | Leave a CommentYesterday was the first day of Nite Moves, and I resumed my duties as a human traffic cone. More precisely, I led out the runners until they come back through Shoreline Park, then I stop and direct them back into the park and generally make sure people go the right way. It gets kind of hectic over there because you got runners going up and down, its very narrow, and there is a transition from the street/bike lane back to the sidewalk for returning runners. This causes the most issues, because for some reason which I have yet to figure out, the runners coming back tend to run all the way to their right, forcing the runners going out to their right, which is unfortunately in the street. I try to yell at the runners going out to keep to their left but most of them either don’t hear me, don’t understand, or don’t care, and continue running in the middle of traffic blissfully unaware.
It is unfortunate that Nite Moves falls on the same evening as crit practice, as I am going to have to chose between them each week. It seems I made the right call this week, as there was a crash that sent several riders to the ground and Frazer to the hosptal with a broken collarbone.
In other news, like an idiot I forgot to sign up for the San Luis Rey road race this Sunday, and of course it filled up. However, someone I...

Apr 26, 07:41 PM by Steve | Projects
Posted in Miscellanea | Leave a Comment [3]Since I decided to bail on racing today (and from the preliminary race reports I’ve heard, it was a good call), logic dictated that I do something useful with my time. I hate logic. Anyway, I started cleaning up the house and installed some shelves in the kitchen that I had bought a long time ago.

We also started cleaning the dining room out so that we can start laying down our floor again, trimmed the hedges, weeded our dirt, and washed all of our bike clothes. That’s worthy of another picture, here are most of our bike clothes drying, except for the kit I wore today.

Posted in Health & Miscellanea | Leave a CommentThere was a present for the bedroom waiting for me when we got back from Sea Otter. I wanted to use it right away, but we were too tired to set it up. We set it up and used it Sunday night. It was great! Monday night too! We’ll use it every night!
Yes folks, it is a Pure Sleep retainer.
Now I don’t need to kick Steve at night to get him to stop snoring. I don’t have to hold his jaw shut if I want to read a book in peace.
Ahhhh can you hear it? The sound of silence.
