We’ve been evacuated

The fire looks crazy close to our house. Smoke and ash all over the place, and you can’t see shit. We crammed as much stuff as we could in the Mini and drove over to a friend’s house for the night. We saved the important, irreplaceable stuff, like wedding pictures, my old negatives, Kim’s cross-stitches, our hard drives, and our bikes of course!

i was wondering about you guys. i’m sorry to hear that you were evacuated and i really hope everything turns out ok :(
— jen at Jul 4, 08:39 AMI saw that evacuation warning last night and was wondering if it covered you. Wishing you the best.
— John at Jul 4, 08:59 AMthe odd thing is that we were never in the evacuation warning area, and we never got a reverse 911 call! A sherrif came down the street, Steve asked him what’s the status, and he said “uh, you guys are supposed to be evacuated already.” We were thinking of staying in the house for the night, as the air inside was ok, and the power came back on.
— Kim at Jul 4, 11:23 AMI hope everything is ok. Glad to see Steve out riding this morning… at least I think it was Steve.
There was a ton of confusion last night about where the official evac areas were. Most media was reporting “North of the Patterson Curve”, which people were interpretting as above Queen Anne, etc. Then this morning it said that everyone north of CO between Glenn Annie and San Marcos must leave. Wow!
— marco at Jul 4, 02:01 PMWe drove past mini frog today! Glad to hear that you guys and three of your fleet are safe! See you at ROCO tomarrow AM? I’ll be there a wee bit early if you want to grab a cup o joe, or Crank juice (whatever it is that you drink in the morning)!
— chester at Jul 4, 03:19 PMMark, I noticed the confusion as well about the evac area. Almost everything I read mentioned the “patterson curve”, which was what they were evacuating earlier in the evening. When I got home from my ride at 7:30, they were getting people out of the Rancho Del Ciervo area, and said the fire was just above that ridge. That would be north of the curve. I think the confusion arose because they expanded the area and most of the news services were reporting off old lists. I did find a few articles that said everything north of Cathedral Oaks, between Glen Annie and San Marcos, which is consistent with what the Sheriff told me.
Chester, I’m in Thousand Oaks tonight. Kim wanted to visit her parents and get away from the heat for a bit (her parents have A/C). I’ll be riding around in the mountains here on Saturday, but will likely be back for Worlds on Sunday.
— Steve at Jul 4, 09:25 PMLooks like the narrowed it on the eastern edge, but our house (Patterson) is still included. On the Cal Fire page they are showing 24% containment now. Maybe tomorrow we will be able to get back in. I am confident at least that our house is relatively safe, and now I think it is just a matter of them not wanting cars and people in the way of the firefighters.
