Not feeling Copperopolis, I took Marco’s advice and did two hard training days instead of travelling down south for a pair of short crits. I think that this was my highest volume week this year, but I was able to keep a lot of high intensity despite the the high volume, as you can see in the distribution below. Also, Sunday was my birthday, I’m 29 now.

Tu: 1 hr morning Las Canoas loop, lunchtime hammerfest
W: < 20 min OSM at medium effort, 1.25 hrs crit practice avg 22.4 mph
Th: 1.5 hrs morning Mountain Drive loop, 2 hrs around Hope Ranch & SB with Bill
F: 1 hr morning Las Canoas loop
Sat: 5.5 hrs roco ride & on up hwy 33 for 104 miles
Sun: 4 hrs worlds, then 3 hrs easy spin with Kim

So yesterday I left about 45 min earlier than usual for worlds and rode around las canoas, and all over the riviera, for about 2000 feet of climbing before arriving at the bathhouse. The pace was insane with Olson and Ramsey there, and I popped off around the lyons club park. I could see everyone turn onto goob but there was no way I was going to follow by myself. I continued around the 192 with several others behind me, catching and passing everyone else in front of me that hadn’t turned (not very many) and pretty much pulled them up to the regroup. Most of them were dropped off my group and it seems stopped there, but a few of us kept going to bates. I knew I still had a few people on my wheel and they would probbaly go around me on the last bit of the climb, and thats what happened but I didn’t really care.

I knew I was tired from Saturday but I hadn’t been dropped before the wall on goob for a while. I felt a little better when I read the following at the end of Gary’s Copperopolis race report this morning:

Decided to do the 3hr “Sunday Worlds” ride where local pros Ramsey, Olson, O’Reilly showed up on a day that I thought would be tame due to the holiday. I was wrong.

Well at least I wasn’t alone in my suffering, and was reassured that it wasn’t just me. I got this in my inbox from Marco this morning:

Do you feel recovered from the weekend? The right answer is “No” otherwise either (A) you didn’t push hard enough; or (B) you have unworldly recuperation capacity! Seriously, even if you feel perfectly fine today, maybe you should just do an easy ride (if you haven’t already)…

The answer was… Hahaha. Recovered… No
