Posted in Honeymoon & Vacation
Today we arrived in Rarotonga, the capital island of the Cook Islands. In the morning we had breakfast from room service, then went on the circle island tour; as the name implies, we circled the island. The tour was good but we were the youngest there, probably by at least half. At a coconut demonstration, the guide asked if anyone was on their honeymoon and Kim, in a burst of excitement, shot her hand up and declared “we are!”. This voluteered Steve, somewhat reluctantly, to be the “sharp stick” holder, with which the guide proceeded to bang the coconut against to remove the husk.
After the took we went back to the ship and had a relaxing lunch in the dining room, then got our snorkel gear together and headed back to the harbor. We took the bus to Muri beach and walked along the beach looking for a good spot to start. We decided we couldn’t tell what a good spot was, so we got out our gear and went off. Well, the spot wasn’t great, and there wasn’t much to see there, so we figured we would go for the other island. It was a little further than it looked, but we almost made it before we thought we should turn back; we didn’t want to miss the last bus back to the ship.
Before dinner, us crazy kids decided to stop by the future cruises desk, and ended up booking the Sapphire Princeess round trip from LAX to the Mexican Rivera in October 2005, for our anniversary (category BB for anyone who cares). Then Steve got a shot of Cointreau in a souvenier “shot ball” glass. That stuff is strong.

Dear Steve and Kim, I have been having great fun reading about your adventures, and I eagerly await each day’s report. It sounds as if you two are having a really fun-filled time of it. Keep it up!— Grandmother Turner at Sep 28, 09:47 PM
Dear Steve and Kim,
At first I started a comment following your Monday, Sept. 27 win of the art piece, but something happened and my field of comment was swallowed up. Then I recorded a message in a box which showed up in front of your Tuesday, Sept. 28 escapade. So I hope your diary is not being too messed up by me. You know I am somewhat of a beginner at this international message business. Grandmother T.— Grandmother Turner at Sep 28, 09:54 PM
Steve and Kim,
thank you for sharing this with everybody. One of my lab technicians and I are getting updated on all your wonderful experiences—things that are truly foreign to people who live in Minnesota. Have a great time. We can hardly wait for the next installment.
Love,
Uncle Steve— Uncle Steve at Sep 29, 08:38 AM
Great choice. We are going on the same one Christmas week, on the sister ship, the Diamond Princess. You got a much better price going in October!
Sounds like you are having a great time!
